A love story set in the 2010s… Tanja, a 33-year-old writer from Berlin, meets Jerome, a 35-year-old web designer from the state of Hesse, at one of her book signings. What begins as a one-night encounter gradually turns into a long-distance relationship. At first, they try to see each other as often as possible and maintain an intense exchange of emails when they are apart. But as the 2010s come to an end, both begin to reflect more deeply on belonging, commitment, aging, and responsibility—thoughts that inevitably affect their relationship. They miss each other when apart, yet grow distant when together.
Adapted from Leif Randt’s bestselling novel of the same name, the film may be set in the recent past but feels as if it belongs to another era. Allegro Pastell is an atmospheric meditation on love and longing, as well as a melancholic elegy for a Berlin—and a generation—that is no longer the same.
