The venue of Sinematek/Sinema Evi consists of a historical wooden mansion, meticulously reconstructed to its original form by Kadıköy Municipality, and an adjoining glass building. The mansion was originally commissioned in the late 19th century by Şadiye Erk (1874-1955) and his husband, Istanbul shipowner Celalettin Erk (1870-1927). With its garden, conservatory, and annex, it was considered one of the finest examples of the wooden mansions once found around Yoğurtçu Park in Kadıköy, İstanbul.
The architectural project of Sinematek/Sinema Evi has received two awards: one is in the “Architecture and Urban Design” category of the Marmara Municipalities Union’s Golden Ant Awards, and one from the Union of Historical Towns (TKB), which aims to encourage the preservation and promotion of cultural heritage.
