The final film in the Migration Trilogy, Blood Money explores the process of adapting to the city through factory life and the working class. After marrying, Hacer and Hasan, who work in the same factory, take different positions on their working conditions. Hacer moves towards the union, affected by the experience of their neighbour Mustafa, who is injured at work and denied any entitlement to redress because he works without union representation and, indeed, without being officially registered. Hasan, meanwhile, avoids antagonising the employer. Through the couple’s escalating conflict, the film examines the transition from rural social relations to industrial capitalism, the exploitation of labour, class consciousness and the struggle to organize.
