Circe the Enchantress takes its name from the seductive Circe of mythology. In this film, whose story was written specifically for lead actress Mae Murray, Cecilie adopts a “vamp” persona following her mother’s death, and though she finds love, her lust leads her to ruin. Happiness will knock on the door of this Jazz Age nymph—who has been many women in a single lifetime—once more, after she has lost everything. Long believed to be lost, the film was recently discovered, restored, and brought back into the light of day.
