Akad’s masterpiece My Prostitute Love, which lends an unparalleled depth to Yeşilçam melodrama, tells the story of an impossible love between Halil, a greengrocer leading a traditional life, and Sabiha, who works in a nightclub. Meeting Sabiha at a nightclub he visits at his friends’ insistence, Halil is soon drawn away from his familiar way of life. Yet the life he has built until then presents an insurmountable obstacle to their relationship. Adapted by Safa Önal from a story by Sait Faik, the film is an enduring classic of Turkish cinema, distinguished by its visual elegance and emotional intensity. Türkân Şoray and İzzet Günay’s nuanced performances make Sabiha and Halil’s fragile relationship unforgettable.
