The director of the Palme d’Or-winning Uncle Boonmee Who Can Recall His Past Lives, Apichatpong Weerasethakul, presents his debut film, an experimental work that blurs the boundaries between fiction and documentary cinema. Mysterious Object at Noon unfolds layer by layer through a story built around a game played by a film crew with the people they encounter in rural Thailand, moving fluidly between genres. This extraordinary film by Weerasethakul, a director unique to Thai cinema, is a visual feast thanks to its shooting process that spanned over two years and its black-and-white imagery captured on 16mm film.
