Paris Calligrammes, constructed by Ulrike Ottinger using black and white found footage, looks back from the present to the past and focuses on the artist’s time as a painter in Paris in the 1960s. Ottinger narrates in her own voice, recounting her time as a young artist in Parisian art galleries, bookstores, and the Cinémathèque Française, her artist friends, and how her life there nourished her films.
This autobiographical documentary, which the artist approaches with a nostalgic and poetic gaze, presents a portrait of the unforgettable art scene in 1960s Paris.
