With Lütfi Ömer Akad’s masterful direction, a screenplay by poet Attilâ İlhan and unforgettable dialogue, Port of the Lonely has become a classic of Turkish cinema. Shot amid Istanbul’s misty, sombre atmosphere, the film tells, in a poetic and melancholy language, of a solitary ship’s captain (Sadri Alışık) drifting from port to port and a nightclub hostess (Çolpan İlhan) trying to survive in a dark world, who cling to one another in search of hope and love.
