The restored version of Rosaura at Ten O’Clock, screened in Cannes Classics in 2024, prompted something of a rediscovery of this cornerstone of Argentine cinema. Blending crime film, melodrama and psychological drama, it tells a story of murder and love through its characters’ differing perspectives, sustaining its mystery until the final moments and inviting viewers to reflect on the relativity of truth. Often discussed alongside Orson Welles’s Citizen Kane and Akira Kurosawa’s Rashomon, Rosaura at Ten O’Clock is a work of Mario Soffici’s artistic maturity that also helped Argentine cinema move beyond classical conventions towards a more modern form.
