Şaban and Hatice, a couple in their forties, live with their family in rural Kosovo. They make a modest living through livestock farming. Although they occasionally struggle financially and work hard, they are content with their lives—until a conflict between Şaban and his brothers shakes everything. The family falls apart, and their economic foundation collapses. The only option left is to move to Pristina with their two daughters and Şaban’s mother.

In the city, every new beginning proves painful. Despite their determination to survive through hard work and honesty, Şaban and Hatice find themselves under increasing pressure. The ruthless, hyper-capitalist system barely allows them to breathe—devouring working conditions, human dignity, and the hope for a better life.

Known for his social thrillers such as Father (2015) and Exile (2020), Visar Morina returns to his hometown with his new film. Awarded the Grand Jury Prize in the World Cinema Competition at Sundance, Shame and Money is a powerful drama offering sharp observations on morality and economics in late capitalism.
