Stars in Broad Daylight reveals the oppression created by Syria’s repressive regime through the story of a family preparing for a double wedding in a coastal town near Damascus. With its powerful and poetic visual narrative, the film demonstrates how the violence produced by the regime seeps into even the most intimate moments. It was well-received at the 1988 Cannes Film Festival; however, it was banned in its home country following its initial screening. This masterpiece by Ossama Muhammed, who has lived in exile in France since 2011, remained unseen for a long time until its restoration.

* To be screened in a 4K restored version.

** Restored by The Film Foundation’s World Cinema Project initiative and Cineteca di Bologna, in collaboration with Ossama Mohammed at the L’Immagine Ritrovata laboratory. The restoration was made possible with support from the Hobson/Lucas Family Foundation.
