The first film in Lütfi Akad’s Migration Trilogy, The Bride follows a large family who migrate from Yozgat to Istanbul and struggle to establish themselves in the metropolis. While Hacı İlyas and his sons devote every available resource to expanding their small shop and opening a grocery store in an affluent neighbourhood, their daughter-in-law Meryem struggles to secure treatment for her sick son. Focusing on the desire for prosperity and traditional power relations within the family, the film reveals the cost of greed and patriarchy through powerful social realism. One of the most affecting representations of internal migration in Türkiye, The Bride won awards at the 1973 Adana Golden Boll Film Festival.
