Alain Robbe-Grillet, who was nominated for an Oscar for the screenplay of Last Year at Marienbad, featured in our main program, presents a mysterious, hypnotic, and dreamlike spectacle set in 1960s Istanbul in his first directorial attempt.
With Müzeyyen Senar singing Farfara, The Immortal One opens onto the historical city walls of Istanbul, tracing the story where dream and reality intertwine through the streets of Istanbul. Filmed entirely in Istanbul, the city, transformed into a ghost town by the turbulent political atmosphere of the time, plays an important role in the film.

Set in a stream-of-consciousness narrative, The Immortal One features a soundtrack embellished with Turkish classical music and the now-vanished silhouette of old Istanbul. It tells the story of a French businessman visiting Istanbul who, after losing track of a mysterious woman he met by chance, sets out to find her. Every clue about this mysterious woman blurs reality, trapping the French businessman in an inescapable cycle.

Set in the same universe as the films Lost Highway and Last Year at Marienbad, which you can watch as part of the main program, The Immortal One promises to be one of the most unforgettable viewing experiences on the silver screen for curious viewers.
