Winner of the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film and numerous festival prizes, including at Cannes, The Official Story follows Alicia, a history teacher living in Buenos Aires. As she searches for her adopted daughter’s biological family, she begins to question the past and confront the official history she has chosen to believe for years. Made after democracy returned to Argentina, it was among the first films to bring the dictatorship’s crimes directly to the screen and embody the country’s reckoning with its recent past. A powerful viewing experience, The Official Story was acclaimed worldwide on its release and drew renewed attention to Argentine cinema.
