The second instalment of Lütfi Akad’s Migration Trilogy, The Wedding follows a family of six who migrate from Urfa to Istanbul and struggle to build a life in the city. Seeking financial security, the men in the family plan to marry off the girls in exchange for substantial bride prices, but the eldest sister, Zelha, challenges this arrangement. Resisting the sale of her sisters under the guise of marriage, she confronts patriarchal authority. The Wedding, which earned Akad the Best Director award at the Antalya Golden Orange Film Festival, considers the poverty associated with migration alongside the persistence of rural traditions in the city, questioning patriarchy through a strong female protagonist.
