Vagabond, by Agnès Varda, one of the most important filmmakers in world cinema and the French New Wave, opens with the death of Mona, a woman who has taken to the road, rejecting all forms of attachment, including property ownership, and the roles society assigns her. The film then constructs a retrospective narrative through the accounts of people she encountered along the way. Following the struggle for existence of this homeless wanderer, who seeks no home and remains free of all ties, the film won César Awards for Best Film and Best Actress, as well as the Golden Lion at the Venice Film Festival.
* The screening on 25 October will be followed by a discussion with Aslı Ildır, Ayça Çiftçi and Senem Aytaç to mark the 25th anniversary of Altyazı film magazine.
